TORSI, 2005
Torsi is a photographic series of ‘psychological self-portraits’ in two parts. The first part is comprised of childhood portraits, originally taken by the artist’s father, which have been re-photographed and cropped by the artist to show only the body. The second part of the series shows the adult torso from the back, clothed in a transparent dress with a stitched-on spine. All six images are printed darkly and, at first glance, appear to be abstract black squares in a white frame. It is only as the viewer approaches the work that the images reveal themselves.
